With so much down time during the Corona lockdowns I began to discover new subject matter: by going for walks in the woods and by perusing my bookshelves and finding a book called Nederland Bomenland on ‘typically Dutch’ trees – which was really about their settings: trees touched by human elements and endeavours. Trees are simply great subject matter: they have interesting structure, texture and history. I wanted to explore the competition, balance, play between architecture and the natural environment.
